With the Indian team on the brink of starting what promises to be a long and gruelling season ahead, skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 has insisted that his team is fit, both mentally and physically, and ready to do full justice to their packed schedule.
“The team is all fit from the physical and mental aspects. The one and a half month’s break (after last IPL) was very good from the physical and mental aspect,” observed Dhoni.
“Even on the tour of Sri Lanka (where the team played five ODIs and a lone T20 game against the hosts) we had breaks between each game,” he added. “We are quite ready for the packed season ahead.”
The Men in Blue kicked off 2012 with a fairly disappointing tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 this March. Following the 5th edition of the Indian Premier League in April/May this year, the team had
a one-and-a-half month break, after which they went on a limited-overs tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
The matches during the tour were evenly spaced out, providing the team ample opportunities to rest and recharge in between games. The Men in Blue eventually went on to win the 5-match ODI series, 4-1, followed by a 39-run victory in the only T20I.
With the culmination of the Sri Lanka tour in early August, the team have been back home, preparing for the tough season ahead which kicks off with a home series against New Zealand.
The Indian team will be hosting the Black Caps for a 2-match Test series (with the first match to be played in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792 from August 23 to 27, while the second will take place in Bangalore from August 31 to September 4), which will be followed by two T20Is
(the first in Visakhapatnam on September 8, and the second on September 11 in Chennai).
“Slowly we will get into the Test format now and then the T20s. There is lot of cricket ahead ending with the IPL. We have to look ahead every 15 days,” said Dhoni.
