India rule at home by embarrassing England in the One-Day series – Opinion
India have finally avenged their forgettable tour of England earlier this summer, by pulverising England in a five-match one-day series which saw the demise of the number one team in Test cricket fall to their knees in the 50-over game.
England had won the five-match one-day series against India by 3-0 and India now returned the favour by grabbing a 5-0 win against the Poms.
The victory was always on the cards as India are the toughest team to beat when they are playing at home, while on the other hand, England are perhaps weak the most when playing outside their home land.
Nonetheless, with the type of show England had been giving in recent months people were expecting a better show from the team which was also among the favourites in the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) World Cup 2011.
England have almost beaten every team at home and now is they want to be taken as a serious threat in the world of cricket they need to buck up their performance on foreign lands.
Champion teams like Australia and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 have never shown any weakness while playing in any part of the world and this is something the enigmatic England side lacks.
The current http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 cricketers are regarded as the best players to have played for England and they need to back the hype by conquering other teams all over the world, “Champions at home and losers outside” won’t work for them anymore.
If they want to join the ranks of teams which have achieved immortality, they need to counter the problem of losing outside the country.
Meanwhile, India on the other hand, have redeemed their lost glory to some extent, “At least within http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750,” by humiliating England with a series win.
Indian skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028, who was the butt of almost every joke in India before this series has managed to climb back his former stature as the is currently being praised by almost everyone for showing great character and skill in leading his
side to an ultimate win against the invaders.
However, we need not forget that Dhoni was severely criticised after India poor show in England where not only did they failed to win a single match in the Test, T20 and ODI series, but also lost their number one spot in Test cricket.
This was a bitter humiliation from a reigning World Champion in one-day cricket as India became the 2011 Champions by beating http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 on April 02, 2011.
The Indian team desperately needed to a befitting win to staunch their dominance in modern-day cricket to prove to the world their win World Cup championship was not a fluke.
With both teams now even, now the coming months will be their real test as England will have to win series playing abroad and India would need to show consistency to avoid another England like debacle.
If these two sides manage to do this only then they would be able to stand in the league of South Africa and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, the two teams who have consistently been dominating the world of cricket for over a decade.
