India says no to Hot Spot against Australia - Cricket News Update
In another development before the upcoming Test series between hosts Australia and tourists India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided not to allow the use of Hot Spot technology in the much hyped series.
The Indians have always had their reservations regarding the use of Umpires Decision Review System (UDRS), but now have also smashed the possibility of using the Hot Spot in the upcoming series.
According to the BCCI, there are still questions regarding the accuracy of the system, due to which they cannot allow the use of the controversial technology.
On the other hand, the Australians are least amused by India’s recent decision and feel that scrapping the Hot Spot would result in a controversial series, if a few decision go against India.
Australia have bitter memories of playing against India, four years ago, when the series was almost abandoned midway due to controversial decision by the umpires.
The Australians wanted this year to be different, for which the use of technology to help the on field umpires was the obvious choice.
However, BCCI has thrown the idea out of the window - a decision that might backfire once the series gets underway.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mickey-Arthur-c1969, the Australian coach, is also disappointed by the scrapping of the Hot Spot as he believes the induction of technology in the sport will improve the decision making process and eliminate bad judgment on part of the umpires.
“I have been in favour of it, I always have been," said Arthur.
Peter Young, the spokesman for Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 has a view about the accuracy."
Meanwhile, Australia’s Channel Nine, has decided to use DRS and Hot Spot for its viewers, instead of aiding the on field umpires.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bradley-Edward-McNamara-c48280, the executive producer of Channel Nine while commenting on the recent development said, “If India get a couple of rough ones through the summer, they might all of a sudden become a fan of DRS."
