India should win World Cup for Sachin Tendulkar: Vinod Kambli
Former India cricketer, Vinod Kambli has asked Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his men to do their absolute best to win the ICC World Cup 2011 for the batting maestro, Sachin Tendulkar, who has a burning desire of lifting the coveted trophy since his childhood.
Kambli, a childhood friend of Tendulkar, said that he has dreamt of winning the World Cup title since his childhood and if it does not come true this time around, the 37-year-old might continue playing and will take his chance in the next edition which will be played in 2015.
“It is somewhere in the back of Sachin's mind to win the World Cup,” said Kambli who played 1992 and 1996 World Cups with Tendulkar. “I sincerely hope that the team should give the World Cup gift to him else he will play in the 2015 World Cup too.”
Kambli said that he and Sachin were ball boys in the ICC World Cup 1987, in which http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Maharashtra-c811 friend stated his desire of winning the World Cup for India back then and their desire of playing in the mega event came true in the next edition, the 1992 World Cup.
Post 1992, both friends featured in 1996 World Cup as well and Kambli expressed his dejection over losing the tournament after reaching the semis.
“Many a times I feel why we lost despite coming so close to winning,” said the left-hander who played 104 One Day Internationals in a decade-long career. “I remember I had cried. In 1996 we had a good opportunity to win. Despite playing well throughout the tournament we lost the match in the semi-finals (against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758).”
He said that the whole nation has its hopes attached with the Indian team. Wishing the side best of luck, Kambli was hopeful the team has the potential to emulate the 1983 feat when the Men in Blue under http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kapil-Dev-c70234’s leadership lifted their only World Cup title.
“I wish the entire team, especially http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahendra-Singh-Dhoni-c73820, all the best to fulfill the master blaster's dream,” he added.
Talking about the advantage of playing in front of their home crowd, Kambli said that playing at home also puts pressure on the team, like the one India faced during the 1996 World Cup when they lost to Sri Lanka in the semi-final.
