India squash England by posting 323 for four at stumps on day-one - Cricket News Roundup – Part 1 – November 16, 2012
India exhibited their supreme form on Thursday, when they hammered an outstanding tally of 323 for four against tourists England on the day-one of the first Test at Sardar Patel Stadium, Motera, Ahmedabad.
Openers G Gambhir and V Sehwag outplayed the Poms by staging a stand of 134 with Gambhir hammering 45.
Sehwag was outstanding, as he smashed a brilliant 117 to put his side in a commanding position against the England side that is seeking redemption after losing their number-one spot in Test cricket this year to South Africa.
India also have pride at stake as in recent times they have failed to subdue their opponents in Test cricket.
Apart from the openers, CA Pujara was also impressive with his 98-run knock.
From England, ace spinner GP Swann was the only success story as he took all the four wickets.
England pace attack will have to deliver on day-two if they want to create a game out of this match.
On the third day of the first Test between West Indies and Bangladesh, the hosts trail by 72 runs with 4 wickets remaining in the 1st innings, at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur.
After getting jabbed for 527, Bangladesh managed to hammer 455 for six at stumps on the third day.
Naeem Islam was the best batsman from Bangladesh for smashing 108 off 255, while Shakib Al Hasan belted an impressive innings of 89 to play an important role in his side’s first innings.
Australian opener, David Warner, has reckoned that South Africa's batsmen were distracted quiet easily in the first Test.
“I don't think you saw any of our players stop once because of guys walking behind the sight screen. I don't know how you can be that distracted or what they're looking at or what they're seeing,” said the Aussie opener.
“The other day AB de Villiers played a ball when the sight-screen was still on the advertising board, so if he's just concentrating on the specifics of the bowler then that's fantastic,” he added.
