India have gone one up in their home Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 as they won their opening match by eight wickets on Tuesday, 26 February, 2013 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai.
After restricting the tourists on a first innings score of 380 runs, the Indians never lost command in the match and had their guests pinned down.
With India bolstering an intimidating first innings score of 572, the Australians could only hope to bat for as long as possible in their second innings, however, they were no against the Indian spin which left the Australian batsmen devastated.
Ending the penultimate day with just 232 runs on the board for the loss of nine wickets, the Australians could visualise their first defeat of the tour.
Resuming their innings, the last pair could only take the score to 241 before getting bowled out.
India now needed just 50 runs to win the match.
However, Australia were going to do everything in their power to make these 50 runs the hardest for India to make.
Indian openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/M-Vijay-c1867 and V Sehwag had hoped to steer their side across the finish line, before Pattinson spoiled the party by getting Vijay after the batsman had scored only six runs.
With this dismissal it was evident that Australia were planning to make India work hard for their 50 runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739 and CA Pujara then calmed things down as the two batsmen led their side towards 36 runs, before Lyon had the better of Sehwag, dismissing the batsman on 19 off 23 deliveries.
However, by this time Australia knew they had already lost the match as they saw http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Tendulkar-c2556 (13) take India to victory in 11.3 overs.

try and spread the field,” said Dhoni after the match.
