India v Bangladesh LIVE: Virender Sehwag scores 175 in ICC World Cup 2011 opener
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 kicked-off today with the dominance of India against Bangladesh at the Shere Bangla national stadium, Mirpur. India reached a massive 370 runs in their allotted 50 overs.
Shakib-Al-Hasan, captain of the Bangladesh team, won the toss and elected to field first. The pitch had no assistance for bowlers but the decision to put India into bat first came considering the expected dew, which falls in the evening. However, the decision did not prove to be a right one for Bangladesh as India got off to a good start, courtesy of their openers Sachin Tendulkar and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Virender-Sehwag-c95429.
Sehwag and Tendulkar are one of the most formidable opening pair in cricket today. Both batsmen played aggressive cricket and didn’t allow the bowlers to settle down. Tendulkar was well set and looked threatening until he misjudged a run and found himself in the middle of no where. He chipped the ball towards wide mid-on and tried to sneak a quick single but both Sehwag and Tendulkar were ball watching, which resulted in a run-out for the veteran batsman. The master blaster would have liked to start his World Cup campaign with a strong performance but he managed only 28 runs off 29 balls before throwing his wicket away.
India were 69 for the loss of one in 10.5 overs when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gautam-Gambhir-c58623 joined Sehwag in the middle. The pair continued to dominate the bowlers and scored a brilliant 83-run stand for the second wicket. Gambhir rotated the strike over to Sehwag and this helped the run-rate increase quickly. Sehwag bombarded the bowlers and showed no mercy.
The partnership between Gambhir and Sehwag was broken in the 24th over when Gambhir missed a straight ball, which crashed into the stumps. The left-hander had done his job, as he along with Sehwag laid a solid platform for the middle-order.
Gambhir scored a run-a-ball 39 before getting out. His wicket brought the promising http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Virat-Kohli-c95424 to the crease. To make things worse for Bangladesh, Kohli and Sehwag amassed a magnificent 203-run stand for the 3rd wicket. Sehwag played exceptional cricket and scored 175 runs off 140 balls before he was eventually dismissed in the 48th over.
Sehwag smashed fourteen fours and five massive sixes in his innings. Kohli, who was making his debut in a World Cup match, scored a terrific unbeaten 100 off just 80 balls. He powered eight fours and two towering sixes.
There was nothing worthy of being discussed in the Bangladesh bowling. The bowlers were clobbered to all parts of the park and they had no answers to the explosive batting from the Indian batsmen. Shakib-Al-Hasan, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahmudullah-c1877 and Shafiul Islam took one wicket each for their team but gave away too many runs.
It will be interesting to see whether how http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. Although it is unlikely that the hosts win today, anything can happen in a World Cup match.
