India v CA Chairman XI – Three-day tour game ends in a draw
The three day practice match between Cricket Australia Chairman XI and the Indians ended in a draw at the Manuka Oval, Canberra in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 on Wednesday, December 21, 2011.
The tourists had given a target of 145 runs to the opposition, but there was not enough time in the match to get a result.
Earlier, India’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 won the toss and opted to bat first. The conditions in Canberra were perfect for batting, as the wicket was dry and hard. There was some bounce for the bowlers, but it was not concerning.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajinkya-Rahane-c970 got starts, but failed to capitalise.
Veteran http://www.senore.com/Cricket/VVS-Laxman-c2772 was also unable to make an impression, as the Indian side lost four wickets for just 84 runs on the board.
However, youngsters http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Kohli-c2737 played brilliantly, contributing 101 runs to the total for the fifth wicket partnership. The former fell three short of a fifty, but guided his side out of trouble.
The lower-order failed to make a big impact, as the team was all out for 269 runs. Kohli was the hero for his side, scoring 132 runs with the help of 18 fours and a couple of sixes.

In reply, the CA Chairman XI scored 215 runs for the loss of seven wickets before skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Graham-Downton-c44379 Cowan, who earned a place for the Boxing Day Test, scored a terrific ton. He top scored with 109 runs whereas none of the
other batsmen managed to score a half-century.
Promising Indian spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Ashwin-c2228 picked up four wickets, but there was no support for him from the other end.
The visitors’ batted only 30 overs in their second innings and scored 90 runs for the loss of a couple of wickets. Gambhir and Sharma played well, scoring unbeaten 42 and 38 runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-R-George-c81875 picked up one wicket before Dhoni declared the innings.
The home side was also given 30 overs to bat and had to chase down 145 runs for victory. However, they could only manage 100 runs in the end without losing even a single wicket.
Openers Phil Hughes and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usman-Khawaja-c2729 remained not-out for 42 and 56 respectively before the match came to an end.
