http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792, India today, October 14, 2011.
After winning the toss, Indian skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 chose to bat first against England, aiming to put enough runs on the board to grab a win.
Meanwhile, England hoped to take early wickets and restrict the hosts on a meagre tally to give their batsmen a fighting chance to win the first fixture against India who are extremely difficult to beat while playing at home.
The Poms made early inroads when on the penultimate delivery of the fourth over Indian opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Parthiv-Patel-c2159 was run-out after scoring nine runs. At the time of this wicket, India had managed to post only 17 runs on the board.
It was then opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447 who forged a commendable resistance against the rampant English bowling as the duo posted 35 runs in the second-wicket partnership.
Finally in the 12th over the partnership was broken when Rahane after playing a knock of 15 runs off 41deliveries was caught behind by wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GP-Swann-c1501. By this time, India had managed to
post 52 runs on the board for the loss of two wickets.
Later, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Kohli-c2737 came out to provide commendable support to Gambhir as the two batsmen posted 27 runs in the third-wicket partnership.
Gambhir was then dismissed on the penultimate delivery of the 18thover when after smashing a knock of 32 runs off 33 deliveries he was trapped in front of stumps by 25-year-old right-arm pacer Jade Dernbach.
V Kohli and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Samit-Patel-c2426.
At the time of his departure, India had managed to post 123 runs on the board for the loss of four wickets.
Later Raina alongside his skipper Dhoni played a phenomenal partnership of 72 runs as the batsmen helped their side post a gigantic total of 300 runs.
Raina departed after smashing 61 runs while Dhoni stayed unbeaten on 87 runs.
From England http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ST-Finn-c2566, Jade Dernbach, Graeme Swann and Samit Patel grabbed a wicket each.
With an astounding total ahead, England need to bat exceptionally well to even come near the required target as scoring 300 against India would be easier said than done.
