India v England 2011: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, says Sunil Gavaskar – Cricket News Update
Former Indian skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sunil-Manohar-Gavaskar-c91863, has given a new angle to the ongoing debate about the riots affecting cricket in England, saying that it would have been a different story all together, had the English side been in India under the similar kind of circumstances.
He appreciated the Men in Blue for not letting the unrest affect their game. Meanwhile, Gavaskar slammed England’s dual policy for the parallel situations. He suggested that, had the same type of violence happened in India during the England-India clash,
England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) would have called the side back home.
"No question about it. They (the England team) would have been pressing the panic button. They would have been talking in terms of the team returning home. That is a given," said Gavaskar who is observing the situation in England keenly.
Besides commenting on India's sporting behaviour, he also rubbished the ever-going criticism against Indians for making spin-friendly wickets during home series. He pointed out that England prepared seaming tracks for the contest against the World Champions
since the fast bowling department is England’s biggest strength.
He shared that if every country prepares pitches according to the strength, India’s decision to lay spinning tracks is also justified.
"They say (in India) that these are pitches prepared for spinners. They can prepare a green pitch and it will not matter. They are entitled to do everything, the others aren't," added the legendary batsman who has scored over-10000 runs in the longer version
of the game.
Currently, the Indian side is under immense pressure as they are 2-0 down in the ongoing four-match series. While the unrest in different parts of United Kingdom (UK) has emerged a huge cause for concern for the cricketing fraternity, the English administration
has assured fool-proof security for both sides during the Edgbaston Test, which is set to be started today, August 10, 2011.
The two captains, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028, have already made clear that their entire focus in on cricket, dismissing the notion that the riots may affect players’ performances.
