Despite admitting that he always wanted to be a batsman like Sunil Gavaskar, the veteran Indian batsman, Rahul Dravid, clarified that he does not have any wish to be compared with the legendary cricketer.
During the ongoing second Test at Trent Bridge, Dravid levelled Gavaskar’s record of 34 centuries in Test cricket. His 34th hundred urged the cricket pundits to compare him to Gavaskar but Dravid insisted that though it is great to equal his
feat, he has no comparison with his childhood hero.
"I wouldn't like to compare myself with Mr Gavaskar, who is a legend of the game. I grew up as a kid trying to be either Mr Gavaskar or http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vishwanath-c95479 in my backyard. To now equal something he has done is fantastic," said Dravid.
In the absence of the regular opening batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 but the change in his batting order could not make any impact on his temperament. Dravid played an anchor role in the innings as he remained
firm at the crease when the wickets were constantly falling at the other end. The classy right-hander smashed a fantastic 117-run-knock, propping India up to 288 in reply of England’s first innings total of 221.
When asked whether he faced any problem while batting at the opening position, the Indore-born cricketer shared, "As a middle order batsman, all my routines have been set. The 10-minute changeover period when I have to change and comeback, I find myself
rushed. I was determined to ensure I did not get that feeling. I went in bit taking more time. At number three, there is some breathing space even if it is a little bit."
Talking about India’s inability to capitalise on the situation after getting off to great start both with bat and ball, Dravid dismissed the notion that the English team has an upper hand in the game at the moment, saying that the game in evenly-poised and
any side can win the contest.
