India v England – 2nd One Day International - Match Recap
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 238/2 (36.4/50 ov) - Indians won by 8 wickets (with 80 balls remaining)
The Men in Blue beat England by eight wickets in the second One-Day International (ODI) to take a lead of two games in the five match series on Monday, October 17, 2011 at Feroz Shah Kotla, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780.
Toss went England’s way and their skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026, forced the opposition to field, in hopes of making the most of the batting track.
However, it was the Indian bowlers who made the early inroads by dismissing the English vanguards within the first couple of overs. Cook and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Vinay-Kumar-c2237
took their wickets respectively.
This was the worst start that England could have hoped for; nonetheless, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806 brought back some stability to the game. The duo showed great composure and amassed 48 runs for the third wicket.
Trott (34) played unlike himself and scored most of the runs in that stand with Pietersen. The right-handers aggressive innings came to an end on the final delivery of the 10th over. A lapse in concentration from Trott
was what Vinay pounced on, as he got the batsman playing a wide delivery which ultimately cost him his wicket.
The tourists found themselves right back into the match when the fourth wicket partnership between Pietersen (46) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RS-Bopara-c2373 (36) fetched 73 runs. However, both batsmen got out one after the other, in the 25th and
26th overs respectively, putting India back in the driver’s seat.
English teams freshmen, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Samit-Patel-c2426 and Jonny Bairstow, vindicated their selection in the outfits as they clobbered Indian bowling brigade for 86 runs during their 6th wicket stand that lasted 16.2 overs.
However, the balance of the game shifted in India’s favour once again after they saw the back of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Huzefa-Mohammed-Patel-c63657 in the 42nd over; at that time England were 207 for the loss of six wickets. The Men in Blue never looked back and
wiped through the last four wickets quickly, conceding just 30 runs.
Vinay was India’s finest bowler on the day and notched four wickets, while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umesh-Yadav-c94625 chipped in with two.
Chasing a target of 238, the hosts did not get an ideal start. Opening pair of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajinkya-Rahane-c970 were back in pavilion with just 29 runs on board.
At this point, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Kohli-c2737 took matters in their own hand. The duo showed the batsmen before them how to cope with seaming deliveries. Both batsmen played flawless innings and commended each other well.
Kohli (112) and Gambhir (84) remained unbeaten till the end and their stand of 209 runs saw the Indians home with 80 deliveries still left to play.
Kohli was bestowed with Man of the Match honours for scoring his seventh ODI hundred.
