India 316 v England 509/6 (163.0 ov) - England lead by 193 runs with 4 wickets remaining in the 1st innings
It was a long and brutal day for India on Friday, once again, and they might need bandages for the wounds inflicted by the English batsmen who ended the day by posting a massive score of 509 with six wickets down, and have now secured a lead of 193 runs in the third Test being played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
With two days to go, England are in a dominating position thanks to Alastair Cook's rock-solid foundations, who belted a brilliant knock of 190. He would have gone on to bolster a double century had it not been for an unlucky run out.
England resumed play on Friday from 216 with Cook on 136 and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IJL-Trott-c1576 on 21, aiming to continue their destruction.
For the Indians, it was vital to grab a few early wickets to put the English on the defensive. However, England were far from losing their nerves as the batsmen maintained a composed running between the wickets and were not afraid to go after the bowlers for boundaries.
This steady and well tamed partnership took the score to 338 before India tasted their first success of the day when Trott (87) was caught behind off Ojha. This was Ojha’s second wicket in the match.
It was then time for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806 to join the demolition as he, alongside Cook, took the score to 359 before India finally saw Cook off the field.
With Pietersen hammering his way into the innings, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IR-Bell-c1597, scored five runs before losing his wicket. By this time, England had posted 395 runs on the board.
SR http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Huzefa-Mohammed-Patel-c63657 and KP then staged another remarkable partnership as the duo led the side to 420 before the latter was removed by Ashwin for 54. Patel (33) was the next to go, as he perished with his side on 453.
England then ended the day with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GP-Swann-c1501 on 21.
