http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013: Mahendra Singh Dhoni heaps praise on spinners – Cricket News Update
Indian skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028, was head over heels after romping England in the fifth and final One Day International (ODI), played at Eden Gardens Kolkata, on Tuesday, October 25, 2011.
With the win, India completed a 5-0 whitewash over the tourists and somewhat avenged the humiliation of their tour to England. Dhoni praised India’s spin department and laid special emphasis on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RA-Jadeja-c2238 performance.
“We had a bit of a partnership in the middle, and later on with Ravindra Jadeja and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/P-Kumar-c2143. Jadeja and Praveen (Kumar) gave us the extra 20 runs (while batting). Jadeja bowled really well, and so did Ashwin and they were
supported by (Manoj) Tiwary and (Suresh) Raina,” acknowledged the Indian skipper.
Jadeja won the Man of the Match award for his all-round performance. The left-hander contributed 21 valuable runs with the bat and picked up four wickets for 33, which also include the prized scalps of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/C-Kieswetter-c1206 and Jonathan
Trott.
England took a magnificent start to their innings; however, the Men in Blue kept their cool and pulled things back drastically. Dhoni backed his decision to take the powerplay later in the innings. The wicket-keeper batsman was
also very happy with the efforts put by his side in the outfield.
“They got off to a very good start, and I was just waiting for it to spin, that's why I delayed taking the powerplay. We've really improved in the fielding department too,” said a delighted Dhoni.
The Indian captain silenced all those who doubted his commanding skills, as the wicket-keeper led from the front with an unbeaten 75, which propelled the Men in Blue to 271.
Dhoni, who was titled the Player of the Series for his consistent batting throughout the event, believes that the Men in Blue were fortunate to score such a competitive total on a surface that had little assistance for batsmen.
“It was, to some extent, an ugly looking wicket. It was difficult to score runs. We were fortunate to score 270 on a wicket like this; 240 to 245 was in our mind,” said Dhoni.
England will look to restore some pride by overcoming India in the solitary Twenty20 match which will be played at the same venue on Saturday, October 29, 2011.
