The Cricket Association of Bengal’s pitch curator, Prabir Mukherjee, has promised a sporting One-Day wicket for the fifth and the final One day International between India and England to be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Tuesday, 25 October 2011.
"We have prepared a pitch that will stay firm with even bounce. It will be a typical one-day wicket. Plenty of runs will be on offer," said Mukherjee while talking to the media reporters on the eve of the match; however he refused to predict a total for
Tuesday’s game.
The last time Kolkata hosted a One Day International, the Eden Gardens' strip saw 632 runs being scored, with the hosts chasing down a mammoth 315-run target set by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758. The CAB curator said that this time also a lively wicket is awaiting India and
England.
India is leading the five-match ODI series 4-0 and must be looking forward to inflict a 5-0 whitewash on England, while the tourists would be desperate for a win to save some face.
The Kolkata strip has also a tinge of green on it and is anticipated to support the seamers. The wicket also seems have some turn to offer to the spinners in the later stages of the game.
When asked what should be the decision of the captain winning the toss, Mukherjee said that it is up to the respective skippers and they know it best.
Since the match would be a day and night game, Mukherjee said that while preparing the wicket they have also kept in mind the dew factor and are taking all necessary measures to minimize the dew effect.
"There's not much dew nowadays. But we will take precautions - of chemical sprays - in case the dew comes into play," he said.
Overcast weather conditions have been forecasted for Kolkata on Tuesday and the association has arranged a full cover for the ground. Mukherjee told the reporters that more than 50 groundsmen would remain standby to do the needful to avoid a situation where
rain could play spoilsport.
