India v England - Was
India overrated before the England tour? - Opinion

After India’s disastrous tour of England all h**l has broken loose in the Indian camps and many are now pointing figures at the skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 for India’s doom.
However, before jumping to any conclusions one has to have a realistic grasp of the situation before the fateful series which saw India trounced by England as they were overthrown from the number one spot in Test cricket.
One needs to ask, whether India were up to speed before the series and were they really as good as they were projected in the media considering the fact that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 were a formidable opposition because of their impregnable record in Test cricket for the
past three years.
India were presented as the obvious winners before the first ball was even bowled, which was a destructive approach so as to speak, because not only did it effect the fans, it also created a delusion in the minds of the Indian players that they were going
in for an easy series without actually having to work hard for it.
Most of the Indian players and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) were complacent and not bothered about the upcoming crusade in England, which resulted in their demise while playing against the Poms.
The media hype had created such an atmosphere as if India had already brought the series home, which obviously created problems later on as the Indian supporters failed to comprehend their side’s massive defeat in the tournament where the former top team
in Test cricket failed to win a single match against the blatant England attack, leaving them beaten by 4-0.
The Indians clearly went into the series unprepared and the worst part is the fact that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 failed to take a fully fit squad as most of the players became the victims of injury during the series.
The biggest loss for India was clearly http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Z-Khan-c98379 who could only bowl in the first innings as he got a hamstring injury which prevented him from bowling in the second innings and later on ousted him from the tournament.
With http://www.senore.com/Cricket/I-Sharma-c1566, India did not have a formidable pace bowler in their arsenal.
These were obvious signs of India’s lack of preparation for the tour.
Keeping all this in mind, it is extremely unfair to hold the Indian skipper Dhoni as the culprit for India’s demise.
Dhoni, who had a bad patch with the bat also failed to impress in the tournament, nonetheless, this is no reason to hold him accountable for India’s loss as veterans like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/VVS-Laxman-c2772 also failed miserably against the English pacers.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Dravid-c2229 was the only inspirational batsman from India, who defied all odds and batted exceptionally well even under difficult conditions. His excellent performance also earned him the title of the Man of the Series which he shared with England’s Stuart
Broad.
From the course of events that took place before, during and after the series, it can be said that India were overrated beyond the wildest imagination which led the BCCI to believe that all was well in the Indian camp and a victory was just around the corner,
causing the national team to loose focus which ultimately cost them their pride and ranking in Test cricket.
