http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 2011: Fidel Edwards wants his batsmen to get a handsome lead in first innings
After placing his side in a strong position in the first Test against India by bowling fantastically, the dazzling West Indian pacer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Fidel-Henderson-Edwards-c57010 wants his batsmen to score at least 400 runs in the first innings and put pressure on the tourists.
The Windies restricted the World Champions on a small total of 246 in the first innings of the ongoing Test at Kingston. After deciding to bat first, the Men in Blue took a shaky start, losing six top batsmen at a score of 85.
The Indians were in deep trouble when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harbhajan-Singh-c61453 took the responsibility and gave a supporting hand to their team by putting together a superb 146-run partnership for the seventh wicket.
Edwards, who burst into the side after a gap of more than two years, made the ball talk and made a thrilling impact on the game, grabbing four wickets for 56.
In reply, the Caribbean Kings scored 34 for the loss of one wicket at the end of the first day. While the visitors will aim to restrict the West Indian side to a paltry score, Edwards asked his teammates to amass a decent score and give an opportunity to
the bowlers to win the game.
"We would look to get at least 400 and bat once”, Edwards said.
When asked about the fantastic comeback, he said:
"It was a good feeling to get back onto the field and do so well, after not playing for so long, so it was a good start for me. It is good to make my comeback in Jamaica, after not playing for so long”.
The Barbados-born paceman described that he was a bit nervous while walking out to the field but eventually he succeeded in calming down his nerves.
Apart from expressing satisfaction over his own performance with the ball, the 29-year old fast bowlers appreciated Devendra Bishoo, who picked up crucial wickets, of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahendra-Singh-Dhoni-c73820.
The pacer, with the round-arm action, added, "He is a star. I was impressed with him. He took three early wickets and then took a very good catch in the end".
