Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s decision to opt for a draw rather going for the run-chase in the third Test against West Indies, has evoked a debate among cricketing circles.
With seven wickets in hand and 86 runs required off 90 balls on the final day of the third Test, which was played at Windsor Park, Dominica from July 6 to July 10, 2011, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760’ target of 180, when Dhoni
made a shocking move, calling his batsmen back to the pavilion and finishing the game without pushing for victory.
The wicket-keeper batsman argued that India’s series victory was at stake since the track was not easy to bat on. However, the former Indian cricketers came out with a different point of view, saying that they were surprised with Dhoni’s decision as he misjudged
the situation completely.
The cricket commentator and former middle-order batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sanjay-Vijay-Manjrekar-c88628, lashed out at Dhoni’s strange strategy, citing Indian captain’s approach as self-protective.
“Must confess…was shocked to see match called off with 86 needed off 90 balls with quality batsmen left...very undhoni like," Manjrekar Tweeted.
Commenting on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Duncan-c54739 Fletcher’s statement in which he defended Dhoni for playing it safe in the final encounter, the former cricketer added, "He hightlighted all the cricketing issues. Fair enough, but those cricketing issues and the conditions that you
talked about, it would have convinced me had it been http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 for that matter."
Moreover, the former opening batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aakash-Chopra-c41377, described that the Indians didn’t play like the No. 1 side in the World.
"Last night at 2am I asked myself a question--did we play like the #1 Test side? The answer was—No," Chopra shared on his micro-blogging site.
Like the Indian cricketers, the former West Indian fast bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Kohli-c2737 still
to come, the Men in Blue wasted a mega opportunity to seal the series 2-0.
