India v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/YK-Pathan-c2815 in batting order
Former Indian cricketer, Kiran More, has asked Team http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 to promote Yusuf Pathan up the order in limited-over cricket, saying that the blazing all-rounder deserves more than batting at No. 7.
The Men in Blue are due to meet West Indies in the second One Day International (ODI) of the ongoing five-match series, today, June 8, 2011.
Although, the Indians notched a comprehensive four-wicket victory in the first ODI at Port of Spain on Monday, June 6, 2011, Pathan did not get http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gordon-Muchall-c1499 opportunity to show his class. The aggressive batsman came out to bat in the 41st over when India
was 31 runs http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Short-c90107 of West Indies’ target of 214.
More believes that the six-down batting slot is an injustice to Pathan’s potential since he can do more damage up the order.
"I am quite disappointed. He should be batting up the order. A player of his class cannot be playing so low in the team that has so many youngsters. By now, Yusuf has rich experience in international cricket", said More.
Pathan is considered to be the master of limited-overs cricket. He has participated in 52 ODIs, in which he holds an average of 28.81. In Twenty20 International cricket, the 28-year old all-rounder has a strike rate of over 150.
The Gujarat-born batsman represented Kolkata http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Knight-c71599 Riders (KKR) in the recent edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The right-hander was Kolkata’ fourth highest run-getter in the season with 283 runs in 15 matches.
More, who served India in 49 Tests, and, 94 ODIs, insisted that the team management has been wasting Pathan’s talent by keeping him in the lower-order.
"By slotting him at No. 7, the team management is not sending the right signal to Yusuf. Everyone deserves a promotion if they are good and this guy is a match-winner. It is disheartening to see the treatment meted out to Yusuf. After all, he is the future
of Indian cricket", added the 48-year old former Indian wicket-keeper batsman.
A few days ago, the former Indian all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Salim-Aziz-Durani-c88148, also expressed his concerns over Pathan’s batting slot and stated that the all-rounder should be given the opportunity to bat at the number 3 position.
