http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 v West Indies 2011: Mahendra Singh Dhoni irked by rain-hit draw in the 2nd Test – Cricket News Update
The second Test of the ongoing three-match series between two cricketing giants, India and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, ended as draw at Kensington, on July 2, 2011.
Although, the Windies were delighted to save the game after losing three early wickets in the second innings, the draw frustrated Indian skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahendra-Singh-Dhoni-c73820.
On the first morning of the Test, the West Indian skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Darren-Julius-Garvey-Sammy-c52468, won the toss and put the Indian side to bat. The decision turned out to be a great move when the Caribbean Kings restricted the strong Indian batting department to paltry 201 in the
first innings. Failing to capitalise on the situation though, the West Indian batsmen collapsed on 190 in reply.
However, the rain-affected third day helped the Kings since most of the day was washed out by the inhospitable weather. In the second innings, the tourists amassed 269 runs and set a target of 281 before declaring.
Chasing a challenging score, the home side got off to terrible start, losing their top-three batsmen for 55. However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Darren-Michael-Bravo-c52477 consolidated the innings and ruined Dhoni’s dream to secure the series 2-0.
West Indies’ score was 202 at the loss of seven wickets when bad light came into play, forcing the players to finish the affair around 30 minutes earlier on the fifth day.
The result-less second Test gave an opportunity to the home side to level the series but Dhoni was irked by a draw which came despite his team’s impressive comeback.
"I am disappointed to some extent. The last session was evenly poised. My plan was ruined because of the rain, we got couple of wickets that were needed but bad light spoiled the party," Dhoni said.
Meanwhile, the Indian wicket-keeper showed complete satisfaction over his team’s performance in all three departments of the game.
"I think there was fair bit of moisture on the track on the first day. Our bowlers have been really good in this series. Even though some of them have not taken wickets, they have put pressure on the batsmen," added the World Cup winning skipper.
