India were in a comfortable position at stumps on day three of the final Test at the Wankhede Stadium in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 on Thursday, November 24, 2011.
The hosts ended the day with three wickets down for 281 runs, but still have a first innings trail of 309 runs.
Earlier, the West Indian side started the day with 575 runs on the board and had just one more wicket remaining.
The tourists’ skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382 decided to continue batting today even though there was no recognised batsman left in the innings.
However, tail-enders Devendra Bishoo and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Fidel-Henderson-Edwards-c57010 were unable to make a big impact and were dismissed after collecting just 15 more runs in the day today.
The former was the last man to be dismissed in the inning after contributing 12 runs to the total. He became a victim to Ravichandran Ashwin’s wily off-spin bowling, as the youngster claimed a five-for for the second time in his Test career.
West Indian middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DM-Bravo-c1386 proved to be the highlight of the innings with a fabulous knock of 166 runs, smashing 17 boundaries.
The Indian team would have been relieved after finally getting a chance to bat on a flat batting pitch in Mumbai.
Openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447 gave a fantastic start to the hosts, collecting 67 runs for the first wicket partnership.
However, the former was unable to make most of the start to his innings and was sent back to the pavilion after contributing 37 runs to the total.
Gambhir did not throw his wicket away and capitalised on the start, scoring 55 runs before being dismissed.
The fall of the openers brought veteran cricketers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Tendulkar-c2556 together at the crease, as the pair started building a solid partnership.
Dravid looked all set for another century, but was cleaned up after contributing 82 runs to the total with the help of 11 boundaries.
However, Tendulkar and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/VVS-Laxman-c2772 made sure that the Men in Blue do not lose another wicket in the day and guided the score to 281/3 before close of play.
They were batting on 67 and 32 respectively before the umpires called the day off.
Sammy, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marlon-Nathaniel-Samuels-c74804 picked up one wicket each in the day and will look forward to some support from their team-mates as well once they come out to bowl tomorrow.
