Sammy missed the opportunity at a crucial time in the game as the tourists were struggling in the second innings after losing a wicket early on.
The Men in Blue started their second innings with a lead of 73 runs. While the Indian team was looking to lay a solid foundation for a massive total, the West Indians bowled fabulously and created a few chances.
Dravid was batting at an individual score of six when the West skipper wasted a simple chance at the second slip. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Rampaul-c2233 bowled a beautiful delivery to Dravid who played the ball away from his body. The thick edge went straight into the hands of Sammy
who failed to grab it.
The Indian batsman took full advantage of the opportunity and went on to smash a superb century. Dravid’s classy knock 112 steered the visitors to reach 252 which eventually set a challenging target of 326 for the home side.
"I didn't sleep well (on Tuesday) at all, knowing that I dropped the ball," said Sammy.
However, he lauded the great Indian batman for his fantastic innings. "Dravid didn't attempt a pull till he was on 98. It clearly shows why he is called The Wall," added the 27-year-old all-rounder.
With seven wickets in hands, the Caribbean Kings need 195 more runs to win the game. Conceding the fact that it all depends on the batting department now, Sammy hoped that his batsmen will seal the victory and alleviate his sorrow of missing the crucial
opportunity.
The St. Lucia-born cricketer shared, "It's up to the batsmen now to go out there and put up a fight. Hopefully, we can be victorious. The game is still wide open. I think whichever side wins the first hour, will determine the winner. Batting in partnerships
will be the key.”
