India comfortably beat Australia by seven wickets to the lift the Quadrangular under-19 series title at the Endeavour Park, Townsville Australia, on Sunday April 15, 2012.
After being asked to bat first, the Indian quicks managed to put the Australians on the back foot, as they took out the first three wickets at the score of 47.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sandeep-Sharma-c88505 at the individual score of 0.
Meyrick http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Buchanan-c48808 and Travis head then tried to construct a solid partnership but only succeeded in adding 29 runs to the total before the partnership was broken by Sharma, who picked up Head (12).
William Bosisto, the skipper, came to bat alongside Buchanan. Both looked fluent and were gaining valuable momentum but their stand ended on 78, following the induction of spin as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harmeet-Singh-c1533 sent Bosisto back to the pavilion.
Buchanan still rallied on and posted a courageous 59 but his departure off Vikas Mishra, ensured that the bowling side held advantage. To the Aussies’ credit, the late order managed to keep the scorecard ticking, which included Sam Hain’s unbeaten 41 and a quick fire 17-run knock from by Pat Cummins, but their sluggishly paced innings meant that they could only post 194 in 50 overs.
The Indian bowlers remained extremely successful in keeping the opposition at bay, with Sharma and Harmeet picking up four and two wickets respectively.
The Men In Blue’s run chase also started on a slow note with both openers, Manan Vohra and Akhil Herwadkar becoming the victims in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Iftikhar-Ali-Khan-Pataudi-Nawab-of-c64075 Cummins’ fiery first spell.
However, the tourists found a saviour in skipper Unmukt Chand, who anchored the innings to remain unbeaten on a sublime 112. He had two supporting sidekicks, first being Vijay Zol, with whom he added 77 for the third-wicket to take the team score to 106.
Following Zol’s dismissal, falling off Gurinder Sandhu, Akshdeep Nath stepped up and carried on helping the skipper as the two made sure that their side comfortably reached to the victory total in 42.4 overs.
The hosts used as many as six bowlers, with only Cummins and Sandhu managing to show any consistency. The rest remained lacklustre in their display.
The Player of the Match accolade was given to Chand for his outstanding batting performance in which he struck 9 fours and 6 sixes – helping his side to lift the U-19 Quadrangular series’ title.
