http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 vs England: SWOT analysis of England’s bowling
England will play India on Sunday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The Poms started their World Cup campaign on a slow note, struggling to beat minnows Netherlands.
England would need their bowlers to be in top form for the crucial match against India. The SWOT analysis of their bowling lineup will show that they have some serious names in their squad who are quite capable of delivering a good performance.
Graeme Swann would most definitely be the major strength of the English bowling lineup. Swann is the champion spinner for England and has a great capacity of bowling some tidy overs for England. He was quite impressive in the match against Netherlands and
took 2 wickets off his 10 overs. He could easily exploit the Subcontinent conditions to his advantage and make life tough for the Indian batsmen.
Tim Bresnan is another bowler who is in a good form and also bowled well in the match against Netherlands. Stuart Broad and James Anderson are the other notable bowlers in the English squad and have a great tendency of rising to the occasion against a tough
team.
There are some ‘weaknesses’ in the English bowling lineup: most of the English fast bowlers struggled against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Netherlands-c753 and found it hard to dismiss the Dutch side for a low total. The English bowlers were not comfortable in the Subcontinent conditions
and this factor would definitely hamper their confidence. English bowlers generally take some time in getting accustomed to the Subcontinent conditions and could bowl some loose overs.
Furthermore, England does not have a ‘middle-overs’ specialist. Paul Collingwood often takes up the role, but is mediocre at best and cannot be expected to cause any serious damage. To add to the predicament, India has a strong middle-order batting line-up
and could score some important runs off the part timers.
It’s worrying for England that Stuart Broad and James Anderson were not at their best against Netherlands and they could struggle to make a significant impact in the opening overs against India. However, Indian batsmen have a tendency of struggling against
some quality fast bowling and could find it difficult to play effectively if England delivers on that front.
If Anderson and Broad bowl with a tidy line and length in the opening overs they may shake the Indian batting line-up. England could also rely on the services of Swann in the middle overs.
The Indian batsmen have a perfect know-how of their home conditions and would be waiting for any weak link in the English bowling. There is no margin for error for England; a weak ball should be expected to be hit out of the ground.
