India vs. Great Britain: India beat Great Britain 3-1 on Day 2 of the 20th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup
India concluded the match against Great Britain with a victory by 3-1 at the 20th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, played on the second day at the Sultan Azlan Shah Stadium in Ipoh, Malaysia on May 6.
The first half concluded with the Indian team leading by 1-0 over Great Britain. This score was made by Rupinder Pal Singh as a result of a penalty corner in the opening 10thth minute of the match. Great Britain received few scoring opportunities
but failed to equalise the score, ending up trailing by one score at 0-1.
In the second half, India continued to show its offensive side in action during the first six minutes. As a result, India soon received a penalty corner in the 55th minute that was attempted by Rupinder Pal Singh, resulting into a score at 2-0.
In a matter of a couple of minutes, India received another penalty corner for which Singh came upfront again.
On the 57th minute mark, Singh completed his hat-trick with a perfect shot into the goal, advancing the Indian lead to 3-0.
The British team was found under-pressure, trying to match the pace of the game. Finally, British striker James Tindall struck a perfect shot past the Indian goal-keeper, reducing the lead at 1-3 in the 62nd minute.
During the remaining minutes of the match, India kept the ball in possession in order to avoid a British attack. Conclusively, the match closed with India taking victory over Great Britain 3-1.
India won their first match out of two in the Azlan Cup, achieving three points and reaching below Pakistan, who is at Number one with two wins and a total six points.
Great Britain was defeated and drop to third place with three points from their prior win.
The next match is to be played between the host team Malaysia and World Number one Australia.
This will be the first match for Australia of this Malaysian tourney whereas the second for Malaysia.
