Kallis was proving to be dangerous, so one can imagine the relief in the Indian camp when in the 36th over some astute wicket-keeping from Dhoni had Kallis run out on 69 runs.
The South Africans took the batting power play in the 37th over with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887 and Duminy attempting to bring down the required run rate of 8.85 runs an over. It paid immediate dividends, as Duminy and de Villiers both hit boundaries off
Nehra and in the next four overs found the boundary four more times and had the ball sailing over for a six as well, before Harbhajan struck again. De Villiers had just completed his half century after a sublime shot for four, only to find his next shot to
be his last in the match, as Kohli took an impressive diving catch.
Du Plessis came on and smashed a six over long off much to Yuvraj Singh’s bemusement and by the end of the 42nd over the required rate was down to 7.75 runs per over.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 needing 57
runs from 42 balls with 5 wickets in hand.
Patel was unlucky not to be celebrating the wicket of van Wyck, who was lucky to escape as a slip by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gautam-Gambhir-c58623 resulted in a South African boundary instead of an Indian wicket. Patel recovered and two balls later had Van Wyck out leg before wicket,
despite a review by the Proteas.
The required run rate had crept up again to 8.33 runs per over and the pressure was on the South Africans, as Botha made his way to the crease. His 23 runs off 15 balls helped bring the required run rate back down, as he departed after a brilliant catch
by substitute Raina off of Patel’s bowling.
Yet the two boundaries and the six contributed by Botha made all the difference, as South Africa now needed 17 runs in the last two overs. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zaheer-Khan-c98451 had other plans and some brilliant bowling meant that the Proteas needed 13 runs in the last six balls.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashish-Nehra-c46293 was handed the ball for the last over, something that seemed to favour Peterson, who smashed two fours and a six to win the match for the South Africans with two balls to spare in the innings.
South Africa beat India after a consistent batting performance and spirited bowling by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dale-c52110 Steyn. His figures of 5-50 earned him the Man of the Match award. Yet India has only them selves to blame, after an incredible batting collapse as Tendulkar, Sehwag
and Gambhir seemed to have set them on their way.
It was an exciting match, as both teams fought down to the wire. The South Africans will be happy for the amazing victory, as the Indians are surely disappointed at their efforts.
