Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has said that his team has not yet played up to its potential in the ICC World Cup 2011 and has the ability to raise their game in the final of the mega event against Sri Lanka on Saturday.
This is the first time in the history of Cricket World Cups that two Asian teams will be up against each other in the final.
Although India have won many games comprehensively in the showpiece event but they lost against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 and played a tie with England after posting a mammoth total on the board.
Dhoni has mixed feelings about his team’s performance in the ICC World Cup 2011 as he said that his team had to face a challenge from all the opposing teams in the tournament and there is a lot of room for improvement.
However, he showed satisfaction that his team has qualified for the final of the most coveted trophy of the world of cricket.
The Indian captain said, “If you just talk about potential as to what we can do, there is plenty to come but we have done quite well in the tournament. We won games with runs in the pocket and quite a few wickets left when we chased. Every game was a challenge
for us and we had to be at our best.”
Dhoni emphasised on the fact that final is the most important match as the crown of world champions is at stake. He said that quarter-finals and semi-finals are crucial matches but final is the real test of characters of the players as everything would be
won or lost in this fixture.
“It's not about the quarters or semis but the final, how you turn up on the field and what you do. Until that full stop, that sentence is not complete. We know our strengths, weaknesses, what we need to do on the field. It is a big game for all of us,” Dhoni
added.
