Virender Sehwag, the stand-in India captain, has won the toss and opted to bowl first, favouring his bowlers on a damp wicket in cloudy and cool conditions in the second One Day International of the five match series, being played
at the Dr. YSR Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam today, December 2, 2011.
While talking at the toss, the Indian captain, Virender Sehwag, said that he was expecting dew to play a role later in the evening, so it was an additional factor behind his decision to put West Indies into bat, besides overcast conditions.
The visiting skipper, Darren Sammy, also said he would have opted to bowl first, had he won the toss.
Earlier, a drizzle in Visakhapatnam forced a 30 minutes delay in the start. The match was scheduled to start at 2:00 pm (IST), but due to the rain, it started at 2:30 pm. However, the delay did not cause a deduction in the overs.
Curators had promised a batting friendly wicket for the second One-Dayer, but the pitch had several large cracks on it, which means batting could become difficult as the day proceeds.
