India have defeated http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 Stadium, Townsville, to lift the illustrious trophy for the third time in history. The victory was led by none other than Unmukt Chand, the skipper, who blasted an unbeaten century to guide his team through to the title triumph.
Chand won the toss earlier in the day and opted to bowl first, which turned out to be the right decision, with the home team losing their openers for merely eight runs on the board. The Baggy Greens however, went on to post a competitive total of 225 runs for the loss of eight wickets.
Aussie skipper, William Bosisto remained the top-scorer with 87 not out, which came off 120 with the help of six boundaries. India’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sandeep-Sharma-c88505 picked up four wickets to help his team’s cause.
Chasing a big target, Chand took the onus on his shoulders and played through the innings, scoring 111 unbeaten runs off 130 balls, in which he struck seven fours and half a dozen hits out of the park, to be named as the Player of the Match.
The right-handed opener was over the moon after the victory and thanked the team management and the players during the presentation ceremony for putting up a great show. He dedicated the victory to the millions of cricket fans back home.
“Townsville has been amazing for us. The journey has been good. I would like to thank the support staff, my team, we had a great time together, it is a very emotional moment, like to thank all the people in India, who prayed for us and to all the Indian fans at the ground,” Chand expressed.
The home team’s captain, Bosisto, was named as the Player of the Series, who quite naturally, was extremely disappointed to have finished on the losing side.
Bosisto said, “Everyone is pretty depleted, we appreciate all the support, we dropped crucial catches and we were caught on the wrong side, the Indians did a great work, it is not the first time he (Unmukt) has terrorized us. Thanks to all and the India team.”
