Indian Anirban Lahiri front runner at the SAIL Open of Asian Tour
The Asian Tour event, SAIL Open, finally teed off today at the picturesque par-72, Delhi Golf Club in Delhi. It was a star studded event with a field full of Asia’s finest showing their skills on the course. The local lad, Anirban Lahiri, emerged on top
of the leader board after the first round concluded.
Lahiri looked in superb touch right from the first hole. He played some excellent approach shots during the first day and carded a superb round of six-under par, 66. His putter was also favouring him as he made an eagle and five birdies. The youngster also
had a drop shot on the tough par-3, 12th where his tee shot landed in the thick rough near the green.
The 23-year-old had a great start to the day as he made a birdie on his first hole. He looked extremely confident in the presence of the top players from Asia. Lahiri also made an eagle on the par-5, 14th where his approach shot landed within
ten feet of the hole. The golfer was overwhelmed with the way he played on the first day and is hoping to continue his momentum throughout the next three days to post his maiden Asian Tour victory.
Anura Rohana of Sri-Lanka, who is making his debut appearance in this Asian Tour event, played exceedingly well for the first round. He had seven birdies and two bogeys on his score card for the first round. Rohana finished the first day with a score of
five-under par, 67 and is just a single stroke behind the leader. His only two drop shots came on hole numbers 14 and 16. The Sri Lankan was very happy with his performance on the first day. Rohana was also looking very confident and this translated into his
beautiful iron shots and putting.
Indian Manav Jani, Thai golfers Kiradech Aphibarnrat and Prom Meesawat are tied in the third spot on the leaderboard. They finished their first day with a score of four-under par, 68 and have a deficit of just two shots over the leader. Jaini had a flawless
round and was bogey free on his card for the first day.
The second round of the tournament will commence on Wednesday morning and these top players are expected to continue their brilliance for the next three days.
