I am looking to get 2 Indian Dwarf Puffer fish in a 10 gallon tank....since they are very aggressive and territorial, what s*x's should I get: 2 females, 1 female & 1 male, or just 2 males?????

If you recommend these fish as well please tell me, why?, and how do the act with each other aggression and territorial-wise.

  1. If they are mature 1 male 1 female - if young then it doesn't matter and they will grow together and not be territorial unless you add a 3rd, then it's a guess...

Do not go to a pet store as they will charge you out the wazoo - I've had great success with www.aquacon.com who has great customer service (and they could tell you more) and www.saltwaterfish.com

just checked & neither has the one you are looking for, but do have other puffers available...

  2. Generally the puffers you will buy will be 2 young to s*x with any accuracy. Any of the combinations you listed will be fine. I would recommend heavely planting the tank to allow them to establish seperate territories. I personally like these fish and they are great in a species only tank. As far as agression to each other as long as they have plenty of areas to establish their own territory (thus lots of plants) they are generally not overly agressive with each other, however other than the possible exception of otocinclus don't try to keep anything else with them. Also keep in mind that it is not uncommon for them to refuse flake food and you may have to feed blood worms to get them to eat. I also recommend a good size population of small snails for them to hunt (you will generally get plenty if you dont' treat your plants prior to adding them to the tank)

  3. Dearest, you are beating a dead horse, you can have as many puffers as you want, but the reality isn't going to change, unless you are a risk taker, I suggest only 1 puffer....

I had 3 GSP's in a 55 gallon tank and they did fine, but I got lucky...if you are willing to take the risk, no one can tell you not to, but just be advised, puffers do best alone in a home tank.
