Indian Hockey Coach Michael Nobbs to induct Assistant Coach before Champions Trophy
Michael Nobbs, the recently inducted coach of the Indian Hockey team is doing everything possible to upgrade the status of hockey in the country.
In the recent decision, the coach along with the hockey management is considering to hire an assistant trainer from Europe in order to prepare the national squad as per the international standards. This will be implemented ahead of the Champions Trophy,
as the Indian team could face the talented European teams in the mega event.
Chief Coach of the Indian team while speaking with the journalist said, “Before the Champions Trophy, we will be bringing in a European as an assistant coach as it will be useful considering we will be pitted against European teams in Champions Trophy.”
The terms between Hockey India and Nobbs, who was appointed at the post of coach last month for the next five years, has yet to be finalised to run the sports affairs in India. However, the trainer has complete awareness about objectives of his job. One
of his major key tasks is to get a spot in the 2012 London Olympics. In his views, it will be a tough task but he will put every effort to meet the target.
Nobbs on the other hand expressed his assurance saying that he had enough time of five years and he would be at the top of the ranking. The first task of the Australia-based coach is the next month Asian Champions Trophy. The trainer was quite pragmatic
in his reply regarding question about the upcoming China-based event. He expressed that he could not make expectation from Indian team at this point, as it is first assignment under his training. The Asian Champions Trophy will give them a chance to assess
the worth of the national side which would help them for starting preparations in the future, he added.
Michael explained that they wanted to move little by little, as they only have to arrange the things in proper format. He further said that he had not fixed any goal but would go ahead in this regard after assessing the performance in the Asian Champions
Trophy.
The trainer was of the view that the players were improving their fitness and stamina slowly and they would get their standard within next ten days. Several senior players will not be part of the Indian squad. India will face China in the first fixture of
the regional tournament. It will be interesting to see how Nobbs can organise the Indian team and take them to a place in the 2012 London Olympics to compete with some of the top teams in the World.
