Question:

Indian Locos; Miniature models?

I am an avid loco watcher in India. (It is misfortune of Indian Railways that they cannot take me on their payroll).

There is a lot of variety in types of locos, especially Electric (AC) Broad Gauge Passenger (WAP) and Goods (WAG) locos.

Does Indian Railways sells miniature models of those locos? Where I can get them?

  1. You need to punch in scale and model on the Internet search engines, see who makes them. I'm sure some model manufacturer makes some, probably a scale model electric train, you should look under Hobby and electric model trains to see what's available. In America, we have all kinds of hobby stores, and online nothing-but-model-train companies. I would imagine some European companies produce what you want, not many American companies would. Try Marklin ( German ), or Lima ( Italian ) searches see if they produce any. Good luck!

    - scale model train operator/collector ( HO, Lionel, G gauge, N gauge )

  2. I'd expect that, as Indians become more affluent, railway modeling will become a more widespread hobby with commercial product becoming available. The railway system is certainly extremely important in the country and the equipment is most attractive and colorful.

Meanwhile, there are already some modelers and modeling groups pursuing the hobby. Here are some contacts you can follow up:

    Some groups and modellers: http://www.irfca.org/misc/model-sites.ht...

    Photos of locomotive models: http://www.irfca.org/~apub/models/index....

    and a Railfan Club: http://www.trainweb.org/indiarail/irfca....

Maybe you can be the entrepreneur to produce the first commercial models for what is potentially a huge market wordlwide!
