Indian National Men’s hockey camps start in Delhi – Hockey News
The hockey camp for the National Men’s team started their training sessions from March 16. This camp is being held at the Major Dhyanchand National Hockey Stadium that is situated in New Delhi. The squad attending this camp comprises of 45 hockey players.
The 45-member squad comprises of six goal-keepers, seven full backs, sixteen mid-fielders and sixteen forwards. All players have been selected out of distinct domestic squads. Above all, ten players were selected from the Air India squad followed by seven
from ONGC, six from IOC, five from Services and four from BPCL team squad.
The six goal-keepers selected from all over the country are Bharat Chetri, Adrian D’ Souza, Jaswinder Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Shreejesh P.R. and Dinesh Ekka.
The names of the seven full backs are Amit Prabhakar, Sunil Yadav, Dhananjay Mahadik, Diwakar Ram, V. Raghunath Sandeep Singh and Rupinderpal Singh.
The mid-fielders attending this camp are Vikram Pillay, Vikas Pillay, Vikas Sharma, Jasjit Kular, Virenderjit Singh, V.S.Vinaya, Vikas Choudhary, Ajitesh Roy, Gurbaj Singh, Ravipal Singh, Preetinder Singh, Sardar Singh, Prabodh Tirkey, Amardeep Ekka, Rajesh
Kumar and Birendar Lakra. Five of the selected sixteen mid-fielders belong to the dominating Air India squad.
The sixteen world class forwards that are getting trained in the National camp are Danish Mujtaba, Rajpal Singh, Mohd. Amir Khan, Arjun Halappa, Dharamveer Singh, Gurvinder Singh Chandi, Tushar Khandker, S. Arumugam, Vikas Toppo, Shivendra Singh, Roshan
Minz, Sarvanjit Singh, S.V. Sunil, Mandeep Antil, Hari Prasad and Bharat.
A provisional schedule has been announced by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) with respect to the oncoming international matches that the Indian hockey Men’s and Women’s team will face against few World-class teams before the 2012 London Olympics.
For Women’s hockey squad, the schedule shows 7th FIH Women's Champion's Challenge 1 from June 18 to 26 in Dublin, Ireland, 2nd Asian Champion's Trophy from September 3 to 11 in Ordos, China, Test Series at Australia from October 12
to 19 followed by a Four Nation Tournament from 20-23 October in Perth, Australia, Five Test Series at Argentina expected in December and 2012 Invitation Tournament in January, expected to be played in Delhi.
For Men’s hockey squad, the schedule shows Azlan Shah Cup from May 5 to 15 in Malaysia, First Asian Champion’s Trophy from September 3 to 11 in Ordos, China, Tri Series at Australia from October 12 to 19 followed by a Four Nation Tournament from 20-23 October
in Perth, Australia, Champions Trophy from November 26 to December 4 in India and Olympic Qualifying Tournament in February in New Delhi.
This camp is being conducted under the newly appointed National Head Coach Harendra Singh, who is preparing the team for the upcoming annual Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in May. Finally, after a three-month training break the team has a person in command.
