Indian Open: Florentyna Parker exhibits steady form in second round
English Florentyna Parker continued a stable performance in the second round of Hero Women’s Indian Open 2012 as she carded a 71 to stay at the fourth position on the leaderboard.
Parker, who got off to a good start at the DLF Golf & Country Club on Friday as she carded a 70 to take the fourth position, did not let her nerve hurt her confidence and made calculated shots
on most of the holes.
Starting the round on the back nine on Saturday, the English golfer parred the first three holes in a row. She faltered on the greens of 13th and 14th and ended up registering
back-to-back bogeys. She, however, bounced back and launched her first birdie on the par-4 15th.
Moving ahead with persistence, Parker shot an eagle on the 18th hole, which helped her regain confidence.
On the front nine, she could not pull off an impressive show as she posted two birdies and two bogeys.
Parker is one of the strongest contenders from England, but the tournament, being played in India, is featuring plenty of local and other Asian players, making the battle even tougher.
Another big name from England, Laura Davies, looked a little nervous on the first day of the three-round Ladies European Tour (LET) as she carded a 71 to take the 10th position.
Davies, however, ramped up her scoring campaign in the second round.
Becky Brewerton of Wales, who grabbed a first-round lead along with two other contenders as she shot a 69, appeared to be in trouble in the second round on Saturday.
Brewerton was happy at the end of the first round, as she said while speaking to the media that she is confident to further cement her position. She said that she was a bit nervous before
she teed off on Friday, because the field is featuring several competent stars, but when she scored her first birdie, her game got more and more perfect.
“I started off pretty average, parred the first few and then I eagled six, the par five, got on in two and made quite a long putt there, so obviously that kicked me on a bit,” said Brewerton
who is being expected to keep her momentum going in the final two rounds.
