Indian Players could play in Sri Lanka Cricket League 2012 – Cricket News Update
BCCI president, N Srinivasan, has stated that the Indian national team's players will participate in Sri Lanka’s inaugural league, the Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) this year, provided last year's concerns are resolved. The league is scheduled to start
on August 10 and will last till the 31st, at Colombo and Pallekele.
"Last time around, there were specific reasons why the BCCI could not support the tournament. And we informed the Sri Lankan board at that time,” said http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Srinivasan-c90829
There will be seven provisional teams participating in the tournament with the provision of including six foreign players in the squad and four in the playing eleven.
"This time, if there are any proposals made, we will examine it. And we have to be satisfied that the doubts and problems we had last time will not continue,” added the BCCI President.
The tournament was supposed to be held last year in July, but the overnight back-out of the Indian board forced the Lankan cricketing authorities to postpone their plan to next year. The league however, was replaced by a domestic tournament where the local
as well as the national players participated in a Twenty20 competition.
Earlier, the BCCI officials had shown their concerns over the payment process to their players last year and therefore restricted the players while threatening one-year bans. Despite the Sri Lankan board guaranteeing financial protection, the Indian board
was not satisfied with their proposals.
The league however, once again faced a controversy this year when the opposition lawmakers outraged the 15-year deal between the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 Entertainment Venture (SEV).
"We accept that SEV is a newly registered company. But, SLC realised that they are capable of handling this tournament, which is why they awarded the contract to them,” sports minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage said.
The tournament includes 24 matches and is said to be telecasted worldwide, while the name of Sri Lankan icon players, who will be representing their cities will be revealed soon.
Team Names : Basnahira Bears, Kandurata Kites, Nagenahira Nagas, Ruhuna Rhinos, Uthura Oryxes, Uva Unicorns and Wayamba Wolves.
