Indian Police authorities arrest 13 bookies in Delhi as betting crimes soar - ICC World Cup 2011 update
The Indian police have arrested 13 bookies in the Indian capital of Delhi. The police have reported that nine of them were property dealers by profession and had turned to betting at the start of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) World Cup 2011 to make some quick and easy money. The police have so far busted three gangs for betting over the last three weeks in Delhi.
The team of inspectors lead by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780. The guilty were operating with the help of 32 bookies across the city and were offering Rs 1.60 for the bet of 1 rupee. The police said that the punters used a readily available computer software called Back and LayPro to place the bets.
The police have been busy busting betting rackets across the whole state. The southern parts of the country are abuzz with betting activities. Karnataka is serving as the centre for the betting mafia where the police authorities have now arrested 25 people belonging to five rackets in Bangalore, Bellary, and Belgaum.
“We had clear information that the betting mafia has moved to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820. They have formed a ring in the state. All the five gangs that we nabbed are interconnected," a senior police official said.
The Police have been shocked by the presence of armed guards from the sates of Bihar and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Uttar-Pradesh-c858 outside the houses of these betting lords in Bangalore. The Police said that this is something new to Bangalore underworld as they previously always relied on guards from their own state.
The law enforcement agencies have reported that the gangs that used to operate from rented rooms before have now shifted their business to cars and vans. The crime syndicates obviously believe that these are the safest places to operate from and all they need is a laptop with Wi-Fi, television and a mobile phone.
