Can anyone tell me what exactly what chutneys, apart from mango, are used in a chutney tray? Would like to re-create one for a party tomorrow night.

  1. when we have pompadoms to start we have

    mango chutney

    red coloured coconut

    chopped onions

    mint sauce (not sure of the proper name)

    and another spicey sauce

    mmm making me hungry!


  2. Try this simple chutneys which is easy to make.

    Mint Yogurt Chutney

    Mint (6-7 leaves)

    Skimmed Thick yogurt

    Salt

    Crush Black Pepper

    Fresh Lemon juice - few drops

    Blend or grind all the ingredients and serve chill or room temperature.It can be use as dip, with starters,snacks and even with main coarse.

    Coriander Coconut Chutney

    Coconut (1 medium piece)

    Coriander (little )

    Green Chilly (2-3 medium or to your taste)

    Garlic (1 clove)

    Lemon juice (few drops)

    Salt

    Blend or grind all the above ingredients.Don't make very smooth paste keep it thick and add water accordingly.

  3. Mint Chutney

    1 bunch mint leaves, washed and chopped

    1 small onion, chopped

    3-4 cloves garlic, crushed

    1 small piece ginger, sliced

    4-5 green chillies, chopped

    1 tsp coconut(optional), shredded

    2-3 tsp lemon juice

    1 tsp cumin seeds or powder

    1 tsp urad dhal

    1 tsp channa dal

    Salt to taste

    Fry all these in a little oil, one by one.

    Blend to a smooth paste using a little water.

    Serve With Dosas, Idli or Rotis.

    Curry leaves Chutney

    Curry leaves-1 ½ cups

    Ginger-1/2 piece

    Red chillies-6

    Urad dal-1tsp

    Salt-to taste

    Asafoetida-a pinch

    Tamarind pulp-1 tbsp

    Oil-tsp

    Heat oil in a pan.Fry the urad dal till light brown in colour.

    Add whole red chillies and asafetida and fry for few minutes.

    Remove from fire. Wash and chop the curry leaves and fry them slightly.

    Ground the fried curry leaves with red chillies,asafoetida,ginger and the salt.

  4. Lime pickle..!!! Tho i like mango pickle tastes very similar but its a little more subtle than the lime you get in the resturants... AHMED Foods do a nice jar ... so no prep needed... (just watch out for the stones.).. should be able to get from any asian supermarket!!!!

    mint sauce is easy ,,mint leaves .. natural yogurt a green chilli pepper and some salt ... whooosh it up in a blender

  5. Cheat and take some out from your favorite Indian restaurant.

  6. mix chopped red onion with cucumber for 1, caesar sauce with a bit of mint is a good 1 too
