The female Singles Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal lived up to the expectations and trod into quarter-finals while it was the end for the female Indian pair Jwala Gutta-Ashwini Ponnappa in All England Open on March 8, 2012.
The World Number four Indian Saina Nehwal stamped her French rival Hongyan Pi with a straight-set victory. However, her compatriot female duo Jwala Gutta-Ashwini Ponnappa got pale against the World Number two Chinese couple Tian Qing- Zhao Yunlei in the
pre quarter-finals of the Women’s singles and doubles event.
India’s only hope for the glory in All England Open, Saina Nehwal will now take on the Chinese shuttler Li Xuerui in the quarter-finals of the Women’s singles event.
Earlier, Saina registered her class against Hongyan Pi of France and hammered her opponent with a distinctive margin of 21-10 and 21-17. She did not spare any loop holes and dominated her French rival in their 34-minute tussle.
After losing first set, the French shuttler Hongyan Pi tried to equal the balance of the match by retaliating in the decider but she could not stop Saina Nehwal from bagging the final set as well.
Saina sealed her victory with score board flashing the final figures of 21-17 and eased into top eight of the Women’s singles event.
On the other hand, the Indian female doubles pair Jwala Gutta-Ashwini Ponnappa failed to rise against Tian Qing-Zhao Yunlei of China and crashed out of All England Open.
The Chinese ladies outclassed the Indians with notable margin of 21-10 and 21-15. The Indian defence lasted for just 31 minutes.
The Indian duo Jwala-Ashwini did not have any reply to their rival’s technical and tactical supremacy and the world class Chinese duo wrapped the first set with a swift 21-10 score on the board.
The World Number two Chinese pair ensured their presence in the quarter-finals by clinching the second and the decisive match point with final figures of 21-15 on the board.
This final blow buried all Indian hopes in the event except Saina Nehwal who is still in the race for the crown in the Women’s singles event of All England Open.
