Indian Tennis Star Leander Paes turns to Acting
The pride and star of Indian tennis, Leander Paes, already has his next move all figured out. As the 37 year old tennis star feels the end of his tennis days coming closer and closer, the player has started shifting his focus towards
his second life-long ambition; ACTING! We sure did not see that one coming.
While talking to the media, the player revealed that he was not ready to give up the sport just quite yet, but yes, his next career move would be to venture into the glamorous world of Bollywood. He also revealed that at the moment
he is trying to find the balance between both passions.
“Tennis is still up there on the agenda, but yes, I've to find the right balance between films and tennis. I won't be playing more than 14 to 15 tournaments next year, so that there is enough time for shooting and for my family," he
says.
When asked about his motivation behind the decision, the Indian disclosed that he had always possessed a very creative soul and felt that films would provide a great outlet for his talent. He claimed that the forums may change
but the end purpose would remain the same, which is entertaining people.
From what we hear, the player is very serious about his acting profession and his ultimate goal is winning an Oscar. No, we kid you not; that is exactly what the player wants to achieve from his film career. He is currently working
on two film projects and says he will wait a while before accepting any more.
“I want to do quality work, so I'm not going to accept films left, right, and centre. I'll be choosy and will take up only those roles which are meaningful and suit me.” When asked whether he thought the public would accept
this drastic change of roles, he remained optimistic saying that people always appreciated good cinema and performances. He plans to work really hard to make sure his performances are up to the mark.
Previously, the player had found this outlet on the tennis courts and what an inspiration he was while in action. It will be sad to see him go, but as is the way of the world, all good things eventually come to an end.
Paes, a professional ATP player, has a grand total of 11 Grand Slam doubles titles under his belt. At one point in time, the Indian was even World Number One Junior Player. Thus, it would not be an exaggeration, in the least, to
say that the player is responsible for putting India on the map of the tennis world. In 2011, he plans to take part in another doubles event. This event will be very important for the player, as his qualification for the London Olympics depends on him performing
well. Rumours have it that Paes wants to team up with Mahesh Bhupathi for the event.
