Indian Theme for Dinner?

Question

Hi, my friend is from the state of Punjab in India and I'm organising a special dinner for him. I have the menu all down pat I'm going to attempt to cook Indian food! (Wish me luck) I'm just needing some help figuring out some decorations to put up and maybe a few things to creat atmosphere. I know he misses his home so i just want to take him there for one night.

there is one thing you HAVE to serve.

JALEBIS!!!!

punjabis love jalebis and hot milk. yum! for decorations just put up some khandas and like bhangra stuff.

dont forget to give him a jalebi :)

I think it would be better to cook food from your area that you know how to cook, to let him sample a different home cooked cuisine.  Anything you make for him will be worse than what he has had at home and I personally think it is a little condescending.

Go to google and search for Indian decoration. See where you can buy them and then go for it!

serve lassi for drinks saltish with food and sweet lassi as a cocktail, have chutneys included in the menu... punjabis are carnivores be sure to add chicken/meat to your menu... for dessert i guess kulfi would be good or just good old ice cream...

as for the decorations you don't have to do much if the food is good then he wouldn't care much for the decorations anyway... still eat more with hands or maybe set the dining on the floor instead of on the table (if that's convenient)! have fun =]
