Indian Volleyball League has bigger plans for 2012
Following the stupendous success of Indian Premier League (IPL Cricket campaign), the Indian Volleyball Federation got the hint to make the game of volleyball more attractive in the country with same trick.
They came up with the idea to set the foundation for Indian Volleyball League (IVL), which was officially launched in May 2011. The IVL involved all the top volleyball players in India with maximum benefits to all the participants.
The inaugural edition of Indian Volleyball League involved six teams and completed its run over 30 days. The participants of the IVL were divided among six franchises, while the teams vied for top prize of 10 Lac Rupees. After proper division, following
six teams were formed.

The first leg matches of the IVL were hosted by Sri Kanteerava Indoor Stadium, Bengaluru and the competition continued from 29th May to 2nd June. The next session was held at Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium Chennai from June 4-8, while YSR Indoor Stadium in Yanam
provided the backdrop for third round of matches from June 12-16. The last leg of Indian Volleyball League matches was covered at the L.B. Stadium in Hyderabad and it completed its run from June 20-24. Eventually, the activity was rounded off and proved to
be a good effort to promote the challenging sport of volleyball in region.
One of the team captains, Sanjay Singh, expressed his views about the overall set-up of IVL.
He said, “Though it was not on a very big scale, our hopes are pinned on it. Volleyball players should be able to earn a decent livelihood by playing in the professional circuit. Volleyball is a spectator-friendly sport, so I’m sure its popularity will grow
with the IVL.”
Sanjay Singh was named the Best Server of the competition. Sanjay had a great analysis that the popularity for IVL will grow up. It was the starting step for Indian Volleyball Federation. They initiated the process and now it will see more success in the
coming years.
In the inaugural edition of IVL, the IVF fixed the price of Rs. 50 Lac for each franchise. However, they saw scarcity of takers and had to reduce the amount to 10 Lac. As a result, the players were given small amounts. The highest amount that was given to
the senior players was 20,000 Rs. only. It was a meagre amount but the players accepted it with the hope that IVL will gain more popularity next year and the amount will be increased. The players had to bear the travelling expenses but they made it to the
venues.
The Indian Volleyball Federation (IVF) has plans to run the campaign in 2012 with the support of more sponsors and make it a successful event. The IVF is head on heels to work for the development of volleyball in India. They have plans to expand the game
to every nook and cranny of the country. Previously, teams from South India competed at the IVL but in the next edition players from Northern India will also get the chance to showcase their skills on the centre court.
