Indian Women win first-ever nine-a-side Lanco International Super Series Match against Malaysia
The Indian Women’s hockey team defeated Malaysia, recording their first ever victory in the nine-a-side Lanco International Super Series, played at the Perth Hockey Stadium, in Perth, Australia, on October 20.
It was a game with new rules where each team consisted of nine players and played a 30-minute game with two halves of 15 minutes each. One player always stayed in the forward line while corners followed new rules as well.
It was one of the best shows in the jam-packed arena, where the Indians started the game at a frantic pace.
Indian player, Jasjeet Kaur, opened the game with a bang on attack in the very first minute of the match.
In the very next moment, Saba Anjum received a pass from Ritu Rani, sending her first attack at the Malaysian goal, but to no avail.
The combination of Ritu Rani and Rosaline created many dangerous moves against Malaysia but the latter’s defence-line was quite strong.
In the fourth minute of the match, India conceded its first long corner, but failed to score from it. It was a great chance for the Indians to take the lead in the game.
The Malaysian ladies played a defensive game, tackling the back to back attacks from the opponents.
With eight minutes into the fast-paced game, India earned another long corner when Asunta failed to drive through the deep circle.
Ritu Rani converted the long corner, putting India ahead of Malaysia, at 1-0. India upheld the advantage until the end of the first half.
With one minute in the second half of play, the Malaysian skipper scored a goal from the field, and tied the knots at one-all.
The Indian girls adopted vivid strategies in the game, accomplishing consecutive attacks against Malaysia which served them in terms of goals.
Sushila Chanu scored a goal in the third minute of the second half, regaining the lead at 2-1. The pace of the game increased with the passage of every minute, as both the teams were struggling for ball control.
With two minutes remaining in the game, Vandana Katariya nailed in a goal from a deflection, sealing the victory for India at 3-1.
