Indian batsmen to look out for (Part 1)
After winning the 2008 home series against the Aussie cricket team 2-0, the Indians are looking forward to holding on to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Besides the tremendous advantage of playing at home grounds, the Indian team has a world-class and a well
experienced batting line up to face the Australian bowling attack.
The first Test match at Mohali got underway yesterday. The visiting skipper, Ricky Ponting wants to restore his team to the No. 1 Test team position by the ICC. He is also looking to dominate the bowling power of the hosts on the slow wickets of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
The Indian batting line-up is as destructive as it can be, with the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028. The Indians are confident enough to face the Aussie bowling power.
If the Indian aim of defending their hard won position succeeds, it would result in Australia’s Test ranking to drop to 5th place. Which is something feared by the Aussies, as it will reduce their confidence level just before the fiercely competitive
Ashes encounter with the English team later on this year.
The Aussies have decided to take on the current No.1 Test team, with a bowling attack of Mitchell Johnson, Doug Bollinger and Ben Hilfenhaus. While, Nathan Hauritz is the only specialist bowling back-up for the visiting Aussie’s. The visiting bowlers will
have their work cut out for them against the world class Indian batting line up.
Virender Sehwag
Virender Sehwag is the finest hitter of the cricket ball in the international arena. His aggressive and brutal approach towards batting has diminished several World class bowling attacks. With his minimum foot work and maximum intent to score, he is going
at the fastest rate in terms of scoring Test runs in the history of the game.
His 9 year of Test cricket, has enabled the Indian master blaster batsman to amass 7039 Test runs, in only 79 Test matches. He also holds an outstanding average of 54.14, with an enormous strike rate of 81.56. He has achieved scoring an impressive of 21
centuries and 22 half-centuries, with a highest of 319. One of the reasons for his enormous strike rate is his ability to hit boundaries and sixes at will. He has a massive of 1007 boundaries and 79 smashing sixes to his name in Test cricket.
If he gets the chance to settle in against the Aussie bowling attack, on the slow Indian wickets, he can surely rip the visiting bowling attack apart. The 31-year old will look to dominate the Aussie bowling attack. If he succeeds the hosts have a strong
chance in winning yet another Test series against the Australians.
Rahul Dravid
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rahul-c83321 Dravid is considered to be one of the last classy Test batsmen in the world arena. He has an elegant style of stroke play. The Indian veteran takes all the time in the world to settle down, and can play at any position in the order, according to the
required situation. His Test credentials speak for themselves, as he is also known as, “the Indian wall”.
The Indian Wall has played a massive of 142 Test matches, scoring around 11,500 runs. He holds an impressive batting average of 52.94, with a strike rate of 42.34. With 58 half-centuries and 29 centuries, the veteran also has 1444 boundaries and 18 sixes
to his name. He is by far one of the best Test batsmen of his era.
