Indian coach Pullela Gopichand reveals his secret formula of success – Badminton News
After guiding India to glory, both as player and coach, the badminton guru Pullela Gopichand still keeps himself on the ground and declares hard work as the real key to success.
The National coach Gopichand is respected as king maker in the country as he has produced many world beaters throughout his coaching career.
His recent success was an Olympic bronze medal by Saina Nehwal and a quarter-final entry of Parupalli Kashyap in the London Olympics.
However, the 38-year-old Gopichand is composed as always as he stated that it is purely a result of a team effort.
He unveiled the secret recipe of success by expressing that it is just hard work and commitment coupled with good training that always pay off in shape of favourable results.
He said, “It’s just a lot of discipline and a lot of hard work and the right fundamentals. Everyone has to put in the amount of work demanded of them. No one can laze.”
Gopichand also added that he keeps himself updated with modern techniques of the game as, no matter player or coach, he always learns from everybody.
The Khel Ratna and Padma Shri Awardee coach started all this from scratch as he still remembers his time when there were not even the basic facilities for players but still he kept the fire burning and raised the country’s flag at the international level.
He showed some flashbacks of those early days by telling that all the time they struggled to get fundamental facilities and these trivial issues consumed more time than the game itself.
However, still he managed to win the world’s oldest tournament, the All-England and fetched silver medal in team event of Commonwealth Games.
After bidding farewell to the arena, Gopichand decided to groom young shuttlers and now he runs a state of the art badminton academy.
He briefed that they train national campaigners according to the international standards and all these shuttlers are given assistance to elevate not only their physical strength but the mental toughness as well.
He said, “We have a structured training process, in sync with international standards, and we give equal importance to training, recovery, mental make-up, skills and strength.”
The Gopichand Badminton Academy has a coaching team of 14 members and more than 150 youngsters are in transition period to become world class shuttlers.
This year, all of the five titles in National Badminton Championships were claimed by the players of his academy and this clearly shows the brilliance of Pullela Gopichand.
