Indian driver Karun Chandhok to replace Jarno Trulli at the German Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
India will finally have an Indian driver in Formula 1 this weekend as Karun Chandhok is expected to replace Jarno Trulli for Team Lotus at the German Grand Prix according to a recent announcement by the team.
“Firstly I want to thank Tony Fernandes, Kamarudin Meranun and SM Nasarudin for giving me the chance to race this weekend for Team Lotus,” said Chandhok.
Narain Karthikeyan on the other hand was replaced by Daniel Ricciardo at the British Grand Prix after which the Hispania Racing Team has announced that they might keep Ricciardo for another race as a race driver.
Team Lotus are performing much better the HRT as they are quite clearly the fastest ‘back-running’ team of the sport. This means that Chandhok has a pretty good chance of proving himself and making a point this weekend.
For that, he would have to pull off an extra-ordinary performance which according to his past performances, seems an uphill task.
“Ever since I first joined the team I have been looking forward to this opportunity and I am determined to do my best to repay their faith in me and help the team progress, this season and for many years to come. I am approaching the weekend in a very realistic
frame of mind,” said the Indian driver.
Vijay Mallya, the team principal of Force India recently criticised the two Indian drivers as he claims that they compete in the sport just for the sake of being known as a ‘Formula 1 driver’ and that they are not aiming for anything ‘high’ as a result of
which, they do not have much to offer.
Despite all of this, it seems that at least the Indian fans will get something this weekend as Karun Chandhok will be driving for Team Lotus at the legendary Nurburgring circuit. If he pulls off a good performance for the team, he might be in for a long
ride with them for the rest of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
