Indian duo tumble over Voskoboeva/Bracciali for final berth – French Open 2012
Seventh seeded Indian junction, Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi, trashed the Kazakh/Italian pair, Galina Voskoboeva and Daniele Bracciali, in straight sets at the Roland Garros 2012 on Wednesday. They nudged up a 6-4, 6-2 victory against their opponents
to book a spot in the final showdown at this major clay court tournament taking place in Paris, France.
The Indian collaboration of Mirza and Bhupathi displayed awe-inspiring skills to overpower their rivals in 70 minutes. After stealing the spotlight in their first encounter, they comfortably powered into the title-round at this second of the four Grand Slam
events.
Mirza and Bhupathi high-spiritedly entered the court number one and dominated throughout the opening set. They lost their serve twice but cashed in half of the three break chances to pull out the opener with a 6-4 score line. The Indians clobbered a better
first serve share of 76 per cent as compared to their rivals’ 53 per cent and amazingly clicked 16 out of 25 points on it.
The seeded tandem perfected their co-ordination in the second set and swiftly swiped their entire serves without facing any real challenge. They capitalised on two out of five break chances and manipulated the set with a 6-2 success. Mirza and Bhupathi again
formulated a better first serve share of 76 per cent and spectacularly marked 13 out of 16 points on it.
All in all, the delighted Indians spilled more unforced errors but fired more winners and aces to neutralise the effect. They clicked the match with 64 points as opposed to their opponents’ 49 points.
The in-form Indian collaboration reached this final spot without losing a single set. They also upset second seeds, Czech Republic’s Kveta Peschke and America’s Mike Bryan, en route to final.
Next in line for the Indians is the unseeded tandem of Poland’s Klaudia Jans-Ignacik and Mexico’s Santiago Gonzalez. The surprise finalists stunned fifth seeded Russian-Indian team, Elena Vesnina and Leander Paes, in straight sets to set up this meeting.
They lost their serve twice but cashed in all four break chances to manipulate a 7-6(2), 6-3 score line in one hour and 16 minutes.
