Indian hockey players blame the scarce resources for their poor performance in Azlan Shah Cup
The players of national hockey team of India blamed that it was the non-availability of resources and facilities during the training camp for Azlan Shah Cup, instead of the fitness level, which caused the poor show down in the tournament.
The players stated their views after a report submitted by Balbir Singh, the hockey team manager during the Azlan Shah Cup. In the report Balbir Singh related the poor performance of the players to their fitness level by saying that team India could not
manage to play well in the second half and conceded more of the goals in the second half due to the tiredness and the lapses in the defence-line.
Shivendra Singh, one of the forwards who supported the team-mates, and told that there were no signs of any weariness in the players during the entire tournament.
“We probably ran out of substitutes. Though we had two forwards for replacement, but one of reliable defenders, Diwakar Ram, was injured and that eventually made our defence weak.” Shivendra Singh, the forward in the national team of India stated his views.
He also stated that it was not right to make any comparison between the teams of India and others like South Korea and Australia because they are far advanced in each and every aspect of the game regarding facilities, support staff and technology.
“I am not aware of the team manager’s report, but I don’t think the players were unfit. We could have played better but one cannot attribute debacle to poor fitness levels alone as there were other aspects too,” Arjun Halappa, the captain of Indian hockey
team in the tournament explained his views on the poor performance.
Mariamma Koshy, the President of Hockey India told that before taking any decision on the report of the manager, the evidences, the video recording of the tournament, will be viewed and analysed. He also told that Hockey India has some names under consideration
regarding the appointment of a foreign coach, but the youngest of these candidates will be given priority.
