Indian hockey team starts London 2012 Olympic Games training camp
The preparatory camp of the Indian hockey team that is getting ready to take part in the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games started Tuesday, March 6.
The Indian city of Bangalore will be featuring the training camp for the hockey players while the venue of the London Olympics preparatory camp is set to be the SAI Centre.
The set up of the Indian hockey training camp had not gone smoothly as a dispute had previously occurred between the parties concerned. The sports ministry of India, the SAI as well as the Indian Hockey had been involved in an argument that centred around
the dates proposed for the training camp. After the Indian hockey team had won the qualifying event for the London 2012 Olympic Games, it has been announced that the training camp for the team will start from March 5.
The Indian sports ministry had not been able to clear the grounds for the training of the Team India for which purpose an emergency meeting of the Hockey India as well as SAI was held that decided on the steps to take to resolve the issue at hand.
The secretary general of Hockey India, Narendra Batra, expressed himself on the matter in the following manner, “We told the ministry and SAI that it was important that the camp started at the earliest. They have given the permission to start the camp from
Tuesday.”
On the other hand, the following statements were given by one of the officials of the Indian sports ministry regarding the confusion that had been prevailing over the dates of the London Olympics training camp, “This has nothing to do with the WSH. Nobbs
told us it was important to his plans so we agreed to it. The only issue was Hockey India did not inform us about the date earlier.”
The hockey training camp that is now under way in Bangalore features a total of 48 potential hockey players that may get a chance to show their skills when the London 2012 Olympic Games commence from July 27. The Olympic Games will be reaching their close
on August 12.
