Indian hockey team’s Azlan Cup performance report to be presented to HI on May 23 – Hockey News
The Indian Hockey team’s Head Coach, Harendra Singh, and Manager, Balbir Singh, have proposed to present a detailed performance review report of the team to Hockey India (HI) on May 23.
This report will carry the points as to why the team gave a deplorable performance at the recently held Malaysian Invitational, the 20th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup.
Being two-times defenders of the Azlan Cup title in years 2009 and 2010, it was expected that the team completes a hat-trick win. However, they unexpectedly ended up at the sixth place among the seven nations that participated in the event.
Considering the despicable display, HI had no other option, but to call a meeting on May 31 that will feature the team captain, coaching and development committee, to review the detailed report that the Harendra and Balbir will put forth in the next few
days.
"I will be submitting my report to Hockey India on May 23. Before that I won't like to speak anything on the team's performance. On May 31 there is a meeting where the team's performance will be studied. So, I won't like to disclose any aspects of my report
before that," said the Chief Coach.
The Manager also added his comment that he will talk to the media after submitting the performance report to the federation.
"I am in the final stages of preparing my report which I have to submit by May 23," Balbir added.
Harendra Singh is currently at risk of his career-end due to the poor performance of the Indian team in the Azlan Cup that ended on May 15.
In the meantime, a big concern for the chief coach is to save his job, after the poor performance shown by the team.
Hockey India’s (HI) development committee is planning to remove the coach and the rest of the development staff which was involved in preparing the team for the Azlan Cup.
In the upcoming meeting, it is expected that the future of Harendra’s coaching career will also be finalised. Moreover, the committee will ask HI to hire a foreign coach with view to the preparations for the mega event next year, 2012 London Olympic Games.
After the expiry of Jose Brasa’s coaching tenure in the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, the team always needed a foreign coach for their preparation, however, the option for hiring one for the Azlan Cup was turned down when the government asked to continue with
the same staff and Harendra was appointed back for the post.
The development committee to be there in the meeting will be headed by the Olympian Pargat Singh, who has all the authority to take decisions relevant to the matters associated with coaches.
